Do the recipes for the contest need to use the dried vegetables, freeze dried meat, etc, or can they be made with fresh assuming the crew will re-hydrate everything? Where would someone even get the dried foods to try cooking with?
Hi Jen, Great question. Sometimes your local grocery stores will carry dehydrated fruits and vegetables. Maybe ask the next time you are shopping. There are online retailers like MRE Depot – http://www.mredepot.com/. It would be good if you could try to find the ingredients in the form we will have available. The reason why is that it changes the prep and cooking times. You could provide us with a great recipe using fresh veggies and then we mess it up because our cooking time should have been modified or adjusted for some reason. So try to find the ingredients and if you can’t then make a note in the recipe comments that you used fresh ingredients and we should accommodate for that. Thanks! We look forward to creating your dish.
Will the cooking environment be at a high altitude (lower pressure/boiling points, etc.)? Should we note if our recipes are prepared at sea level conditions?
Hi Mike,
Yes, the cooking environment will be about 8,000 feet above sea level. Please note if you are cooking at sea level. We will make the proper adjustments and we are really looking forward to your recipe. Thanks!

Hello!
I have a couple of questions for you.
1) I prefer to measure dehydrated ingredients by weight. Will you have a kitchen scale?
2) Are the pulses all dry and uncooked, cooked & dried, or canned?
3) I see that there are 6 crew member bios. How many servings should our recipes make?
I wish I had seen this contest sooner. I have so many ideas!
Thanks for your help.
Diana Zeimen
Hello Diana,
We will have a scale and I think all the pulses are dehydrated. The crew size is 6. Based on what happened during the 2-week MDRS mission I would say shoot for a serving of 8-10. Please submit as many recipes as you can. Multiple entries are allowed and we need them. In general we like quick, tasty, and healthy meals.
Thanks for contacting us!
Sian
I just want to be clear, because it makes a big difference in cooking time. The pulses have been cooked and then dehydrated, correct?
Hi Diana,
Actually, most of the pulses are just uncooked dry beans. Sorry for the confusion. So they need to be hydrated and then cooked. But I do recall having split peas while at MDRS and I think those were cooked dehydrated. What I would say is assume that they need to be hydrated and then cooked.
Okay. One more question, sorry.
I have made many, many things from dehydrated foods. However, I do not have time to cook all of the recipes I can provide, as there is only a week left in this contest. Is a picture absolutely necessary, or can I submit my tried and true recipes without pictures?
Having a picture is important. People vote on the recipes and having a picture helps. If you can use a picture from the internet that would be better then no picture. But getting your recipe is most important thing so please submit even if you don’t have a picture.
Your recipes look awesome! Thanks for submitting them.

Will you have a food processor?
No, but we will have a bread maker.
I am unable to add any more recipes. When I click Enter I get the following message: “You have already entered this promotion and it is only possible to enter once. You can tell your friends about this promotion so they can enter too.”
Can you help me?
Thanks!!
I will look into this but other people have entered multiple times so I don’t know why you are being denied.
Hi Diana,
Are you still having trouble submitting? I noticed you put in two recipes.

Will there be snow on the ground?
We shouldn’t have snow. We will be there from spring through summer but being at 8,000 feet you never know.
